so close, yet so far away....

The time of little Charlie coming home to me is so close seeming, yet so far away. Everyone tells you to enjoy this month or so in preparation for the little one arriving. Honestly, it's hard to enjoy this big belly and the up and down all night having to use the bathroom, but I am counting my blessings, and if that is the least of my troubles these days, then let it be. The nursery is almost complete. We'll be posting updated pictures soon. Everyone keeps asking me if I am scared of going into labor. I guess I really don't know what to be scared of yet, so at this moment, no. However, I'm sure you all will hear the screams across town when labor starts for me, but until then, I'm going to pretend that I will wish that it would never end...HA!
I hope everyone is doing well.
Love,

Mamra

How SWEEEEEEET It Is!!!

(Just a quick break from the baby stuff - had to do a shout out to all my fellow Rockets fans)

Ah, how I miss those deep articulate words at the end of every Rockets radio broadcast. As the final seconds wear down, every Houston Rockets fan knows all too well the famous last words of the voice of the Rockets - Gene Peterson - signifying another Rocket victory.

During the span of the Rocket's current 22 game winning streak, I have noticed some striking similarities between the current team, and the team that brought two championships to Houston in the mid-90s and forever dubbed it "Clutch City".

I invite you to take a glimpse at those similarities and why I think our boys have a good shot at making a great playoff run this season.

A New Creature Emerges...

In the immense amount of free time I have between giving my wife back rubs and teaching my unborn child Latin, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese through the womb, I have taken the liberty of coining a new term to describe the transformation that sometimes takes place when a woman is pregnant.

Most of us are all too familiar with the menacing foe we all know as Bridezilla. No doubt, most new husbands witnessed this creature rear it's nasty head a few times during the wedding planning process - or worse - the day of the wedding. It doesn't take much to awaken the Bridezilla...tardy groomsmen to rehearsal, eyes closed in a photograph, nonchalant attitude during selection of china...the list goes on.

Well, I have discovered - as I am sure most expectant fathers have - that Bridezilla has a distant cousin that emerges when your wife hits the final weeks of the third tri-mester. This creature has a lot of the same characteristics as Bridezilla but is much more vulnerable to the smallest provocation. I call her...MOMRA.

MOMRA can attack at any given moment, so it is important for a husband to know how to console and tame the MOMRA. Most of MOMRA's misdirected irritation with you is a result of stress, fatigue and pain brought on by the 5-6 lb. child doing somersaults in her tummy. Hugs, back rubs, foot massages and doing the dishes are proven tactics to soothing MOMRA. When MOMRA feels the urge to cry, allow it. This is a true sign that you are wearing the MOMRA down and that your barrage of calming tactics are working. MOMRA is a very sensitive creature and requires great care and attention and reassurance that everything is going to be OK.

In order to keep MOMRA at bay, it is highly recommended that you inform her ahead of time of any plans you may have. These may include: a beer with your friends, nine holes of golf, tickets to a hockey game, big screen TV purchases.

I am happy to report that Katie has had very few episodes of transforming into MOMRA.

6-8 weeks and holding....

I went to the doctor this a.m. and little Charlie has dropped a bit! This must explain the constant up and down all night feeling like he's coming any minute! But we're still on schedule for middle to end of April for having him. I met a new doctor today (we're trying to meet everyone in the practice) and I really liked her! I think I like her more than my regular doctor, so that's good news!
I am getting nervous and excited, all at the same time. I wish I could just take him out right now and look at him, to know he is okay.....but that would be kind of weird I guess? The nesting phase has sort of hit me.........never been one to LOVE cleaning, but I am getting into it. This weekend I plan to wash all his clothes and get them organized so I can put them in his dresser (that doesn't exist yet, but hopefully will soon!!).
Okay, that's it thus far!

Kicking It Low VOC Style

Last weekend we began our assault on getting the baby room ready. Fortunately, a few friends from work came by and helped out and made it less of a chore (thanks again guys).

So Charlie's room is about 80% there. We've got his crib built (Katie helped with that), bookshelf assembled (we got SO many great books from the shower, we are considering opening a library branch in our home) and of course the room all painted (with low VOC paint of course).

And Katie's parents were kind enough to aid in probably the most important installment of a baby room - the rocking chair. It's even got a nice creak to it!

Feel free to take the tour (they are a bit fuzzy, I had the flash turned off):

Charlie Bit Me!!

Not our Charlie - but one that likes to bite things. Some advice to the older kid: If Charlie bit you the first time, he's probably going to bite you again if you put your finger in his mouth.

OK, So I Lost $10 - To Myself!!

Holidays are a pitiful excuse for not updating the blog - but then again, no one knows about this thing anyway. So it's not like I've had adoring fans clamoring to read my witty prose.

And now that the big day is getting closer, I am going to get a little serious about the blog. Katie is now almost 7 weeks away from giving birth to little Charlie. She is feeling good for the most part and has had the occasional attack of braxton hicks (sp?). How did that name come to be anyway? Probably something we missed in our last birthing class.

Her belly is starting to get those weird movements and bulges that make you think an alien is going to pop out at any moment and run across the table.

Katie had the shower to end all showers two weekends ago, and boy are we blessed! We received so many great things for the little guy - he now officially has more outfits than Katie and he's not even born yet. Many many thanks to all who organized and came - you really made us feel so loved.
