DEF-CON 2

A mother's intuition can come pretty early. We are at Baptist Hospital and are IN LABOR!!! We left the house around noon and checked in. Katie's contractions were definitely getting worse
and it showed, but she has been such a trooper. I am so proud of her. They took her back to triage and low and behold she was already at 4cm!! We were ecstatic! I was so afraid she was going to say, "nothing doing - go back home". so they packed us up and moved us into a spacious birthing room that rivals a Hilton.

Dr. Cain Swope is on call this weekend and took over for Dr. Woods. She is great and Katie really likes her. Katie went ahead and decided on the epidural and let me tell you what a miraculous drug that is. Katie is so relaxed, I need to keep reminding myself that we are in a hospital about to give birth to our first child! The epidural process was a little painful, but again, Katie was such a trooper through that, and our anesthesiologist Cassandra was AWESOME. After the epidural, Dr. Cain came in and broke her water.

We've had the family in here hanging out and visiting and making things very comfortable and laid back. It just seems like a regular ol family get together, except we are at a hospital and about to give birth. We did some lunch in from Five Guys (YUMMM) and now its just a waiting game.

It is a quarter past 5:00pm right now and Katie is at a "stretchy 6" cm as our nurse called it. Cassandra recently came back in to give Katie a little more juice on the epidural and she is feeling better. Stay tuned for DEFCON 1....
